Augarten, Vienna

A beautifully manicured Baroque park with gravel paths surrounding the gardens. Everybody, who visit Vienna, finds this park one of the best places for a run in Austrian capital. Augarten is a large, Baroque-style park in Vienna’s second district with a royal palace, sporting facilities & location of cultural events. The Palais Augarten hosts the Vienna Boys Choir, and there’s a Porcelain factory, Augarten Contemporary, sports fields, and two high anti-aircraft bunkers (flak towers) as testimonials to the Third Reich. There are many gravel paths crisscrossing the 128 acre park. A run around the perimeter of the park is about 2 km. It’s great to combine Augarten with waterside running on the eastern paths of the Danube, especially the Wettsteinpark section, less than 1 km west of the park. Augarten is open only in the daytime: the park’s five gates close at sunset.a
